美貌と、ブルース・フィーリングに溢れた本格派ボーカルで人気を集めたバーバラ・デイン。
60年代にはフォーク・ソングに傾倒し、来日公演を行なったこともあります。
このCDは彼女がジャズ・シンガーとして将来を嘱望されていた時期の吹き込みを集めたもので、(1)から(10)はアルバム「Livin' with the Blues」、(11)以降はアルバム「On My Way」より。
前者は巨匠アール・ハインズが全面的にピアノとアレンジを協力し、バックにはハインズも加わったベニー・カーターの名盤「スウィンギン・ザ・20‘s」のメンバーがそっくり参加しています。
後者は最初期のデューク・エリントン楽団でベースを弾いたウェルマン・ブロードが加わり、よりアーシーなフィーリングに溢れています。(jazzyellより）
